Ahearn: Good news on the energy front
Which brings us to a research vessel that set out from Barney’s Dock in Atlantic City one day in April. It carried on its stern a big yellow buoy bristling with meteorological instruments. The vessel stopped 2.8 miles from shore, in state waters, and dropped the buoy into the ocean.
For the next two years it will record wind and wave, preparing for a 20-megawatt, nine-turbine, wind-power system, called Fishermen’s Energy.
Farther out, 16 miles from shore, Garden State Offshore Energy, a partnership of Public Service with Deepwater Wind of Hoboken, will build a test tower for a 345-megawatt, multitower wind-power installation in federal waters, too far offshore to be seen from land. Read more…
