Lefteris Pavlides: Why Deepwater Wind makes economic sense

The proposed new Rhode Island law that would let Deepwater Wind’s permitting go on is an excellent bill because the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission does not have the staff to evaluate the economic-development significance of Deepwater Wind’s proposed wind farm off Block Island or its indirect but real benefits.

The bill is spot on in seeking to give the decision to such entities as the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation that have staff to assess the potential importance of this project for Rhode Island. The eight wind turbines in Rhode Island waters would pave the way to get financing for several Cape Wind-size offshore projects. Read more…
