In his role as Development Manager for Deepwater Wind, Jamil will lead the Company’s market and policy development activities in New York and support the development of the Company’s projects serving New York, including Deepwater Wind’s South Fork Wind Farm – the state’s first offshore wind project.
Jamil brings extensive experience in the renewable energy industry to Deepwater Wind. Jamil previously served as Director for Policy and Electricity Markets at SolarCity and, more recently, as an Associate Manager at Tesla, both in New York. While at Tesla and SolarCity, Jamil oversaw the company’s involvement in Governor Cuomo’s NY Sun program and negotiated the first joint-policy framework between distributed solar companies and utilities. He also served as the New York Solar Energy Industry Association Board President and as a board member of the Alliance for Clean Energy in New York.
Before joining Tesla and SolarCity, Jamil served in New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Office of Long Term Planning and Sustainability as program manager for renewable energy. In this role, Jamil worked to expand solar market investment in New York and developed the City’s first utility-scale project on a municipal landfill. He also advised on the City’s strategy for energy resiliency after Hurricane Sandy, produced a roadmap to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050, and oversaw New York City’s greenhouse gas inventory.
Jamil earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical and biomolecular engineering and a master of science and engineering degree in environmental management and economics from Johns Hopkins University.
